The Pixel Tablet was recently released, and people have different opinions about it. One of the reasons for mixed reviews is that Google’s tablet doesn’t come with any official productivity accessories. However, there is new evidence suggesting that Google is working on launching accessories like a “Pen” and “Keyboard” for the Pixel Tablet.
According to experts like Abner Li, the Pixel Tablet is a good Android tablet but has a different focus compared to other popular tablets like the iPad and Samsung tablets. Instead of competing directly, Google has designed it to work well with a Nest Hub-like add-on, which is quite impressive. However, this means that users don’t have convenient ways to be productive on the tablet since there is no keyboard that seamlessly integrates with the device.
A few weeks ago, a trusted source of Pixel-related leaks, Kamila Wojciechowska, who is also a contributor to Android Authority, shared some information on Twitter. She mentioned that there might be additional accessories for the recently released Pixel Tablet, including a “Stylus for Pixel Tablet” and a “Keyboard for Pixel Tablet.” Since Wojciechowska has a great track record when it comes to leaks, it was reasonable to believe that these accessories are real, although they are still being developed. Interestingly, Google itself has unintentionally provided evidence supporting the existence of these accessories, further confirming their legitimacy.
While examining the Pixel factory images, one developer discovered a web address (URL) that leads to the newest version of the Pixel’s Retail Demo app. This app is used to secure display devices in retail stores and demonstrate various features of the Pixel device. The URL was found in a file called “PixelSetupWizardOverlay” APK, which tells Google’s Setup Wizard app where to find the latest version of the Retail Demo app when setting up demo devices.
Inside the latest version of the Retail Demo app, which appears to have been released on May 21, 2023, as per the filename, there are specific text references to a “Keyboard for Pixel Tablet” and a “Pen for Pixel Tablet.”
Unfortunately, we don’t have information on when these accessories will be released or how much they will cost. However, if Google does offer them, it might influence your decision to buy a Pixel Tablet, considering the added versatility and productivity they would bring.
